GOD RAINS ON THE JUST AND THE UNJUST

As I was in the spirit this day and it occurred to me that during all of the 40 year wanderings of the Israelites in the wilderness, God never once failed to provide this multitudes’ needs. Food was served up every day and only that days provision was given except on the day prior to the Sabbath. On that day, two days worth of rations were provided so that no gathering was done on the Sabbath. God wanted His children’s undivided attention on the one day a week that He set aside for their rest.

These Israelites were a stubborn lot of folks. They were still very self-focused. They were afraid to hear from God directly and even when their chosen leader disappeared for a few days to seek counsel from God in person, they got bored with the waiting and created a golden calf and proceeded to worship him – this art object of their own making. Yet God continued to show forth patience toward them and continually met their daily needs. But what they never realized was: they disqualified themselves from service in God’s Army. Did that mean they were doomed to an everlasting punishment in a place of hell fire? Or did that simply mean that they were not to be used by God for His Plans and Purposes?

Certainly only two of all the hordes of people were allowed to enter into the Promised Land. Joshua and Caleb were the only ones that came back with a favorable report when they were sent out with the group of scouts ahead of the multitudes. All the people received the report of the other scouts and believed there were giants in the land and that they could never defeat them. "As a man thinketh, so is he…" and their thinking certainly controlled their ability to believe truth. The truth, of course, was that God was in control. God had a Plan. God had made a Promise He would never break.

His promise to the Israelites was kept, but not until all of the doubt and unbelief had passed away and the men of faith could go forth in the power and victory that the Faith OF GOD alone can produce.
