As we discuss the body of Jesus, we have to determine whether we are talking about the physical flesh body of Jesus or the body of Jesus which is the "whole" the "complete man' that is the "spirit/soul" body. Now the word for "flesh" in the Greek is "sarx" meaning the skin, the literal material itself. Whereas, the word "body" in the Greek is "aopa (soma)" meaning the whole, the inner man, not the fallen nature. Strong's Concordance is 4983 which is `soma' or the combination of related parts that are the spiritual body. Compare
the following verses:
1 Cor 15:44"sown a natural (psuchikos) body (soma) raised a spiritual (pneuma) body (soma)" Strong' s Concordance natural
body. Now some Scriptures that use this word for flesh are:
•
Romans 8:3 "in the likeness of sinful flesh (sarx)". •
Acts 2:31 "neither did His
flesh (sarx) see corruption" •
1 Cor 15:39 "all flesh (sarx) is not the same flesh (sarx)" •
Col 2:5 "For
though I be absent in the flesh (sarx).." Romans 8:3 and Philippians 2:7 uses the word "likeness" in the KJV. This word in the Greek is "homoioma". Romans 1:23 states: "seed of David according to the flesh (sarx)". "Used of any general reference or allusion: in respect to, as to (Romans l: 23, 9:5, ll: 28,Phil.3: 6), of likeness simulitude..." (Hebrew/Greek
Study Bible). The Hebrew/Greek Key Study Bible brings out in the expanded Greek concordance the following thought: "It by no means follows that one thing has
been
derived from the other. A resemblance may exist
between two men who are
in no
way related to each
other". The Companion Bible states in its footnotes on Romans 8:3: " Not sir ful flesh for "in Him was no sin"; nor the likeness of flesh, because His
was real flesh, but the likeness
of sin's flesh. sinful
flesh= flesh of sin" • In Philippians 2:7 the word "men" is used to contrast the difference between sinful •
In Matthew we find the spiritual lineage of Jesus. In Luke we find the natural
lineage of Jesus. References
